The Fertile Ground for Exciting Convergence of Rotorcraft and Unmanned Systems

By Editor 05-Apr-2019

Asia Pacific’s growth in rotorcraft and unmanned technologies are at the cusp of change, driven by sectors such as public safety, oil & gas, agriculture, construction and emergency medical services (EMS). Boasting the fastest growth rate globally and supported by continued year-on-year growth across both industry verticals, the Asia-Pacific region is poised to enable the exciting convergence of rotorcraft and unmanned system as corporations and governments here transform their offerings and future-proof their businesses.

The Asia Pacific Market

According to Flight Ascend Consultancy, Asia-Pacific operators are forecasted to continue as the leading market for new helicopter deliveries, as they are predicted to take delivery of around 2,750 new units from 2018-2027. This gives the region a leading 33% share of the global market.

On the unmanned side, driven by growing demand from the commercial and civil government sectors, Goldman Sachs Research forecasts that drone spending between 2017 and 2021 in the Asia-Pacific is estimated to be US$14.2 billion, the second largest market after North America.

Rotorcraft Asia 2019 and Unmanned Systems Asia 2019 to return in April

Leveraging the synergies that cut across both industry verticals, Rotorcraft Asia (RCA) 2019 and Unmanned Systems Asia (UMSA) 2019 present an integrated platform in the Asia-Pacific region aimed at connecting populations and improving quality of lives. Industry leaders like Airbus Helicopters, Bell Helicopter, Dallas Airmotive, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Leonardo, Subaru, Standard Aero, ST Engineering, Volocopter, Garuda Robotics, Patria, Elbit Systems and many others will showcase their latest innovations and technologies from the twin world of rotorcraft and unmanned systems, which will revolutionise the way we live, work and operate.

Witness the twin world of rotorcraft and unmanned technologies take off with new showcases debuting in 2019

  1. Urban Mobility Showcase

With the eVTOL market set to hit US$21billion with an installed base of 15,000 passenger drones in 2035, Asia-Pacific is at the forefront of this growth, capturing 45% market share at US$9.5billion, followed by the Americas and Europe at 30% and 25% respectively.

With passenger drones and eVTOL aircraft expected to start commercial mobility services in 2025, the showcase is the first and only platform in the Asia Pacific dedicated to featuring cutting edge eVTOL technologies and innovations, not only from the industry’s biggest players, but also budding start-ups, working towards a common goal of creating the next generation of urban transportation.

2. What’s Next Start-Up Showcase

Recognising the need to encourage innovation that will drive future growth, RCA 2019 and UMSA 2019 will also debut a joint strategic platform for start-ups to present and pitch their new technologies and innovations.

With the theme of The Future of Vertical Lift, start-ups will get the opportunity to showcase their capabilities and pitch their business ideas and offerings to investors, accelerators and corporate partners. Additionally, they will get the opportunity to meet with top industry players, defence officials and government agencies.

Key attractions also include a unique one-stop exhibition platform for visitors to discover the industry’s latest innovations and technologies from the twin world of the rotorcraft and unmanned systems industries.

A static display area will draw the spotlight on state-of-the-art rotorcrafts, whilst exhibitors conduct riveting demonstrations showcasing the dynamics of the latest unmanned systems powering through real-life simulations of obstacles and harsh conditions in this dedicated demonstration zone.

A centre for thought leadership in Asia Pacific, RCA 2019 and UMSA 2019 strategic conferences will discuss pertinent issues relating to the use of rotorcraft and unmanned systems. Driving focus around the dual theme of The Future of Rotary in Asia and Enabling the UAS Future, highlights include panel discussions on the topic of eVTOL and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), the sustainability of the rotary industry in heavily-regulated Asia region, as well as panel discussions on the topic of urban air mobility as rapid urbanisation continue to put an increasing demand on existing transport systems and aggravate traffic situations.

“Rotorcraft Asia 2019 and Unmanned Systems Asia 2019 are designed to tap an increasing wealth of opportunities in the thriving Asia Pacific region. There is huge potential to connect people and improve the quality of lives by creating an integrated platform for leading players to showcase synergies and technologies that cut across both industry verticals. The convergence of the twin world of rotorcraft and unmanned systems presents an opportune time for us to create change by bringing stakeholders together to discuss solutions, form partnerships, and showcase innovations,” said Mr Leck Chet Lam, Managing Director of Experia Events Pte Ltd, who are the event organiser for the shows, which will be held from 9 to 11 April at Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore.

Additionally, for the first time since its inaugural edition, Rotorcraft Asia 2019 and Unmanned Systems Asia 2019 will be held in conjunction with the 7th World Civil Aviation Chief Executives Forum (WCACEF) organised by CAAS. The curated programme will present the latest vertical lift technologies to visitors and the WCACEF delegates.
